Stay calm and polite. Ask before reaching for anything.

You may remain silent beyond providing your documents.
You may decline to consent to a search of your vehicle.
You may ask if you are free to go.
You may openly record the interaction on your phone.
You Can Say
"My registration is in the glovebox. Is it okay if I reach in and get it?"
"I do not consent to a search."
"Officer, am I free to go?"
